The Anglo-Maratha Wars were three wars fought in India between the Maratha Confederacy and the British East India Company. The First War (1775-1782) ended in a stalemate with the Treaty of Salbai; the Second (1803-1805) and Third (1817-1818) broke Maratha power, and after 1818 the Company controlled most of India.
