चीन-जापान युद्ध 1894-95 के दौरान चीन और जापान के मध्य कोरिया पर प्रशासनिक तथा सैन्य नियंत्रण को लेकर लड़ा गया था। जापान की मेइजी सेना इसमें विजयी हुई थी और युद्ध के परिणाम स्वरूप कोरिया, मंचूरिया तथा ताईवान का नियंत्रण जापान के हाथ में चला गया। इस युद्ध में हारने के कारण चीन को जापान के आधुनिकीकरण का लाभ समझ में आया और बाद में चिंग राजवंश के खिलाफ़ 1911 मे क्रांति हुई।

Battle of Pungdo
The Battle of Pungdo was the first naval battle of the First Sino-Japanese War. It took place on 25 July 1894 off Asan, Chungcheongnam-do, Korea, between cruisers of the Imperial Japanese Navy and components of the Chinese Beiyang Fleet. Both China and Japan had been intervening in Korea against the Donghak Peasant Revolution. While China tried to maintain its suzerain relationship with Korea, Japan wanted to increase its sphere of influence.

Japanese occupation of Gyeongbokgung
The Japanese occupation of Gyeongbokgung Palace or the Gabo Incident occurred on 23 July 1894, during the ceasefire of the Donghak Peasant Revolution and the beginning of the First Sino-Japanese War. Imperial Japanese forces led by Japanese Minister Plenipotentiary to Korea Ōtori Keisuke and Ōshima Yoshimasa occupied Gyeongbokgung palace to restore King Gojong's father Heungseon Daewongun and establish a pro-Japanese government under Kim Hong-jip and the Enlightenment Party's administration.

The Battle of the Yalu River was the largest naval engagement of the First Sino-Japanese War, and took place on 17 September 1894, the day after the Japanese victory at the land Battle of Pyongyang. The Imperial Japanese Navy defeated the Chinese Beiyang Fleet.

Battle of Jiuliancheng
The Battle of Jiuliancheng (九連城之戰) was a land battle of the First Sino-Japanese War between the forces of Meiji Japan and Qing China. It is sometimes referred to as the Battle of the Yalu River, thus creating confusion with the previous naval conflict of the same name of 17 September, and the subsequent naval and ground battles of the Russo-Japanese War, with the same name and occurring at much the same location.

The Battle of Weihaiwei (Japanese: Ikaiei-no-tatakai took place between 20 January and 12 February 1895, during the First Sino-Japanese War in Weihai, Shandong Province, China, between the forces of Japan and Qing China. In early January 1895, the Japanese landed forces in eastern Shandong, positioning them behind the Chinese naval base at Weihaiwei.
