The Jagyeongnu is an automatic water clock built in 1434, during the reign of King Sejong of Joseon, by Jang Yeong-sil and others. Flowing water drove a mechanism that struck a bell, a drum and a gong to announce the time. The surviving Borugak Jagyeongnu, held by the National Palace Museum of Korea in Seoul, is a 1536 reconstruction and a National Treasure of South Korea.
