Operations began against the Pindaris, a band of local mercenaries and Marathas from central India.

This victory ensured the success of Bolívar's campaign to liberate New Granada. The battle of Boyacá is considered a crucial point in the independence of the north of South America, as it allowed further patriot victories at the battles of Carabobo in Venezuela, Pichincha in Ecuador, and Junín and Ayacucho in Peru.
